So the latest XML controvery would appear to be XML Error Handling. The sanest thing I’ve read about it is Dave Hyatt’s, which is a fairly impassioned plea for stricter XML handling. Make sure you follow the links provided (and read Tim Bray’s take as well.)
Personally, I think both sides are right: allowing everything certainly makes life as a programmer harder, and it’s pretty much impossible to allow ‘just a little bit’ of flexibility towards correctness in XML. That said, just dealing with the damnable & (in both encoded and unencoded forms) has made me wish ill to XML on many on occasion.
So, basically, I unidle from a month away to offer nothing of substance to a complicated debate. You are welcome!
